The birds have been thick around our house this winter. The other day, when the sky was blue and mostly clear, we enjoyed catching these two beautiful ones with our camera (click on the pictures to get a larger view):
A male Northern Flicker
A Red-bellied Woodpecker (not sure of the sex...this may be a female, since the male's belly is more reddish-pink).
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but these are big birds. Northern Flickers are 12" long, and have a wingspan of 20". The Red-bellied Woodpeckers are 9 1/4" long, and their wingspan is 16". God makes cool stuff, eh?
