Kyla, our oldest daughter (she's eight), LOVES butterflies. (Actually, she loves bugs and insects in general, but butterflies specifically). Right now, we have a Monarch caterpillar, a Black Swallowtail (we think) caterpillar, both of which we hope to help into butterfly-dom. We also found a chrysalis that we think is a Black Swallowtail. Hopefully it will hatch into a healthy butterfly (the last two didn't make it).
Did you know that a caterpillar loses its head when it makes its chrysalis? It gets a complete overhaul, brains and all. Makes the butterfly be an even more apt illustration of the scripture "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). And, also of how we are to have our minds renewed, to have the mind of Christ, etc., etc...and, talk about nature showing God's glory and making it plain! :)
