Don't Let It HALT Your Walk!

I'm very tired today. I have felt stepped on some over the past week. And I'm fighting off that flu bug that's going around.I know I'm not alone, so I hope to encourage others with these notes that I took during two separate messages years ago.

We only have one enemy, and he comes prowling around like a lion when we are weak.

"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour," (1 Peter 5:8 NASB).

He attacks during weakness (sickness, fatigue) because he's only like a lion. In our weakness we don't always remember that we have power over him through the blood of Christ, so we are easier to deceive.

Don't let the devil HALT your walk with the Lord:

H
Hungry—Whether fasting, or just trying to modify your diet, this is a weak point.
A
Angry—We don't make good decisions when we are angry. Impulse often reigns.
L
Lonely—Ever do something foolish when you were lonely?
T
Tired—When you are tired, fatigue can easily make mountains out of molehills.

When the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to fast for 40 days, the enemy did not come to him until the end of that time. When he was hungry. And physically weak. Weary. Without any human company.

Jesus faced the enemy as a man, calling upon the spiritual resources available to us at any time in our lives to overcome and defeat Satan.

The enemy told Jesus, God doesn't care; meet your own needs!  Has he ever said that to you?

The truth is, nothing can touch us without God's permission. Period. Temptation can come when we are on top of the world (as Job was), or when we are in the trenches (like Jesus in the wilderness). Either way, we need to be alert and ready to do battle when he comes.

  1. I had heard this before but it was a long time ago. Good reminder. Thanks! I like how satan is "like" a lion, but we serve the Lion of Judah! ;) He's (satan) is just a wannabe!

  2. I heard something on K-love the other day that I should keep in mind. Only 1/3 of the angels fell which means we have the 2/3 advantage on our side. If only we could remember this when we are being hunted.
