I did an activity with my kids where they each colored an egghead friend. After they were done, they cracked their eggs into a bowl without knowing if they were raw or cooked.
It is hard to tell if an egg is raw just by looking at the outside of it. By the same token, it is impossible to tell the condition of someone's heart by the way they look on the outside. Attempting to do that is called judging, and it is not our place to do that to others. It is also important to use wisdom in choosing friends, because appearances can be deceiving.
Once my kids got past their disappointment at having to crack open their new "friends," I think they got what I was trying to teach them. :)
