Turkey Love

This Tom tried his best to get this hen to respond, putting on quite the show. Our kids were watching out the bedroom window, howling in laughter (if you listen carefully, you can hear them). The end of this video shows how the hen escaped from the persistent Tom by leaping into the snow. You can't help but feel sorry for him when his feathers deflate and he hangs his head. If you look closely, you can see in the picture below how the pair danced in loops through our side yard (click the picture to get a larger view).

This drama makes me think of people, and how hard we try, at times, to make others notice us and approve of what they see. We can go to great lengths, and even feel like we are succeeding, when suddenly the opportunity is gone, the time wasted. Only when our hearts are turned toward the Lord, working to please Him, will the ultimate outcome have value--regardless of the response of others.

  1. I love seeing all of your wildlife shots. Who knew so many animals lived just off of the main road! It warms my heart to see how much pleasure and happiness you have in your new home (well not so new to you anymore).
