Babysitting 101

Part of the fun of homeschooling is you get to incorporate life-lessons into your school days--you know, those moments when things happen that you don't plan (and maybe don't even want) to happen, happen. Such is life.

This past Tuesday, we had one of the enjoyable interruptions to our daily routine in the form of babysitting my great-niece, Haley (my younger sister's daughter's daughter...got that? :)

Sara's love for babies in general, and Haley in particular, is precious to watch. She counted down the days on the calendar until cousin Brittany would be bringing Haley to our home, and she was very brave when Brittany was running late and we were worried that she decided not to keep her appointment that day.

In addition to learning that little babies can be a bit boring ("Is this it?" Sara asked), Sara and Kyla also got to change their first diapers. (And they were very happy that Haley didn't do a doodle while she was here.)

Sara's arm got tired and I took over the feeding, enjoying Haley's sleepy-eyed enjoyment of her bottle. It took me back to the days when I nursed my kids--days that I fondly remember! The Campbell kids have grown so much, and they are such a joy to be around, but there's definitely something amazing about holding a small child who depends on you for everything.
