Iain has played many sports, including baseball, football, and basketball. His most recent endeavor is wrestling.
So far, Iain has competed in three tournaments. The first was a tournament in Buckhannon, where he took home a participation medal. This was a novice tournament and we were only there for a couple hours.
The next tournament was in Clarksburg, and Iain won the gold in his weight class! That was a long day, with a weigh-in at 8:00 a.m. and the final round ending after 5:00 p.m.
Yesterday was also a long day, this time at North Marion. Iain weighed in at 7:00 a.m., and we got out of there around 2:30 p.m.. He didn't have to wrestle the first round since he won last week, so he began around 11:00 a.m.. He won his first match with a pin. The second match he won in overtime -- even after being injured with an illegal arm move than made for a scary minute or so with coaches huddled around him and mom praying in the corner of the mat.
I am very proud of him for not giving up. He ended up placing second in the championship round against the current state champ!
While wrestling makes his mama nervous, it's a great sport for kids that need the confidence of a one-on-one competition. It's possible to fade into the background when you are on a team, but with wrestling you are front and center.
Iain is doing an amazing job with this being his first year in the sport. We are very proud of him!

Iain is in the center in the royal blue (he wrestles with West Fairmont). As you can see, he's become quite the big guy -- 9 years old and 90 pounds!
Here he is with his Champion tee shirt for his first place win at RCB . . .
holding his second place trophy from yesterday's match at North Marion . . .
and wearing his medals from the first two tournaments.
