Today is the first Five Minute Friday of January, and one of
my goals for this year is to post every Friday.
Do you like to write? Do you
hate criticism? No worries—this is the place for you! No judgment here, just
freewriting joy.
Join me, and others, as we freely pour out our words for five
minutes to a prompt give here. It’s fun, so give it a try!
Todays’ prompt is:
FIRST
Before I do anything else, first I need to pray.
But I don’t
always do that.
In fact, usually I just rush in. Which I think is funny,
because this year my One Word for 2016 is FEARLESS – and that usually conjures
up images of running in head first without worrying about any concerns. My
kind of rushing in has been more of a snowball falling off a cliff, gathering
speed as it collects more snow on the way down (and doing damage as it goes). I
feel that God is calling me to be fearless about listening to Him first, and
THEN doing the plowing ahead. That’s the kind of brave going forward that will
do great things, instead of making great messes (which I’ve been so good at
doing).
What does this New Year hold? Who knows? Oh, wait—God knows!
And that is the big reason why seeking Him first is so important.
I think the reason I’ve hesitated to always ask Him first is
I’ve made it into a big ta-do, where I have to get my Bible and my journal, and
maybe a concordance, and spend a half hour digging in the Word for some amazing
revelation. Because if you don’t take your time it’s not worth your time,
right?
Well, no. Not exactly.
I’m doing to try
it God’s way this year—just a few minutes of whispered prayer during my day.
We’ll see how fearless I can be, reaching for His hand
first.

Thank you for this wonderful inspiring piece which touches my heart in the same way! I have been feeling this for awhile now and desire for a closer connection with God this year. Happy to meet you this Five Minute Friday.
ReplyDeleteWhispered prayer can do womders to give you the strength to do something new. A perfect New Year's resolution.
ReplyDeleteDear Selena,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments.
Your prompting of how to approach The Word of God sounds so much like what I keep hearing: "be not only a hearer but a doer of the word". We tend to lean heavy on either the hearing, as in another Bible study, or heavy on the doer; another charge ahead project. I believe Christ is getting the Bride quiet and still so we can THEN go forward.
Blessings on you and may the The Holy Spirit perfectly lead you to skillfully do both, simply, day by day.
Cheers! {your 5minfri neighbor} Leah
Great reminder about how it's important to pray first before we do anything and to seek God first. It can be easy to rush on to get things done but I've found it makes such a difference when I do remember to pray about things first.
