Wearing the Right Clothes

Psalm 132:13-18 (NASB)
For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.  “This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.  I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.  Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed.  His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine.”
(emphasis mine)

I love when I am spending time in the Word and something I read shows me that God sees me. I feel connected to Him; I feel heard and noticed and loved. That happened this morning.

Because of sinful decisions in my past, I have struggled to throw off shame and to walk in the light that God has given me. I guess it is human nature to try to “punish” ourselves by feeling badly about what we have done wrong. But it is a lie from the devil designed to keep us from realizing the truth of God and of what He has for us.

Shame is such an ugly word. I hate when I hear someone say—especially to a child—“Shame on you!” Feeling shame is a heavy burden to carry.

I love Psalm 132:16-18, where God says He clothes the priests of Zion with salvation, but He clothes the enemies of David with shame.

Merriam-Webster defines shame as: a painful emotion caused by consciousness of guilt, shortcoming, or impropriety; a condition of humiliating disgrace or disrepute;  something that brings censure or reproach.

Contrast this with the definition of salvation: deliverance from the power and effects of sin; liberation from ignorance or illusion; preservation from destruction or failure; deliverance from danger or difficulty.

God showed me what a lie I believe, when I claim Christ as my Savior yet walk around with my head hung in shame! I am not His enemy, clothed in dirty rags—I am His friend (John 15:15) and I am clothed in Salvation!

We are not to hang our heads in shame—God has made us righteous by the blood of Jesus! He has redeemed us and made us clean and new in His sight!

So hold your head up high, and walk in the light of your Salvation, and see what your God will do for you! (See Psalm 37)
